Bill Hibberd is an artist from Summerland who likes to explore the textures, values and colours of oils in response to his surroundings. He works organically, attempting to arrange all the elements of the subject matter before him into a unified whole.
Bill is interested in seeing goodness in the world and expressing it in a manner that other people can enjoy, and without slipping into romanticism. He has no interest in exploiting the grotesque or broken. Bill’s goal is to discover the goodness in humans and the world
“I’ve been visually sensitive all my life. My friends would be scoring quarters off the sidewalk while I stumbled over the cracks with my head in the clouds. I ‘discovered’ art in my mid-twenties and felt called to paint ever since. I had a spiritual awakening around the same time, which took me to Europe and Africa. My experiences there and my spiritual searching continue to inform my art-making and life decisions.”
Bill is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. His self-portrait was featured on the cover of the FCA’s Art Avenue (Jan/Feb 2010). He has garnered Best of Show, People’s Choice awards, and several honorable mentions in several FCA exhibitions.
“I believe we are never more human than when we create with our hands and minds. I believe the artist's privilege is to be a conduit of visual beauty. My paintings are a search into my spirit and an outreach to my fellow humans.”
